YWCA Hamilton

Zonta Hamilton 1 has for  many years partnered  and supported the YWCA of Hamilton.  Most recently we pledged for 3 years, $5,000 per year, to the Holistic Health Solutions Program, a multi-tiered health support program for women experiencing or recovering from homelessness and substance addiction in Hamilton.  The YW’s program addresses service gaps related to holistic, trauma-informed mental and physical health supports for residents and clients of the YWCA’s housing services, including Carole Anne’s Place,  Transitional Living Program, Phoenix Place and the Putman Family YWCA . Our Club’s  donations have been recognized at the YWCA’s  Women of Distinction Galas.

Liberty for Youth

The Bright Choices Program is designed to help young people who require mentorship to overcome challenges related to their school experience, employment and mental wellness.

Hamilton Music Collective

Zonta Hamilton 1 was pleased to fund for 3 years, $5,000 per year the Youth Girls Songwriting Program, geared to girls 13 to l7 year of age with mental wellness challenges who are living in Hamilton neighborhoods experiencing higher than average poverty levels. The Songwriting program is designed to encourage youth girls to utilize the process of lyric writing to build emotional wellness.  The facilitator is supported by a music therapist and psychotherapist in the delivery of the program.  A safe space is created for sharing and the curriculum is specifically designed to build resilience through story-telling that is then built into song.

Interval House of Hamilton

We provided a 3-year commitment of $5,000 per year  to the Violence Against Women Therapy Program that supports the mental health of women who have experienced gender-based violence.  We are funding two programs –weekly group sessions offered through the Women’s Centre of Hamilton in a “low-barrier drop-in format” and a structured group program 4 times a year in 6-week sessions.  The women attending have access to trained and certified Violence Against Women counselors.

“The Be Well Program” supports girls aged 12 and 16 years, who are living in the community with their families while still receiving child welfare services and support from the CCASH. These are girls who due to trauma histories, mental health or substance abuse challenges need additional specialized support.
